Hurricane Ridge
Location:
Roughly 2 1/2 - 3 hours northwest of Tacoma
Directions:
Hurricane Ridge is right behind the first rank of mountains immediately south of Port Angeles. Follow the signs you’ll see as you come into town on Hwy. 101.
Description:
It is quite dark, with unimpeded views in several directions.Spectacular views. Bring binoculars and a camera. There’s a nearby campground. The one night I spent up there not a single car came through after dark. There was a herd of deer that hung around the area all night. I could sometimes hear their hooves, click, click, click on the parking lot , then I’d turn and see them standing & watching me from 20’ or so. There’s a day lodge by the parking lot, locked and dark at night, with toilets & snack bar. I don’t know if the toilets are locked after dark.
